This is part 1 of a three-part webinar series on caring for your diabetes patients presented by Jonathan G. Marquess, PharmD, CDE, FAPhA

This session will review diabetes management including treatment, goals of therapy and contributions to patient care provided by pharmacy team members.

Learning Objectives for pharmacists

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Define the impact of diabetes on the pharmacy landscape and local communities.
  • Review the American Diabetes Association's recommended goals for glycemic control, blood pressure, and lipid management.
  • Describe treatment algorithms for managing Type 2 Diabetes.
  • Review new products and their use, dosage and titration.
  • Discuss solutions with other pharmacists and technicians and share strategies to overcome barriers to success.

Learning Objectives for pharmacy techs

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • List medications used by Type 2 Diabetic patients including the generic and brand names, strength, dosage forms and routes of administration
  • Describe situations that require a pharmacist intervention (e.g., therapeutic recommendation, misuse, missed dose)
  • Discuss strategies to assist the multidisciplinary healthcare team with diabetes care
